Valerie Methot
Valerie promotes positive social change as a playwright, director, and designer. Her art practice stems from the methodology she developed for her UBC MFA thesis project as director/creator of Treated with Tango. Using theatre to process trauma, she honoured her friend who used tango to fight for his life and died of AIDS. This profound experience led to the inception of Some Assembly Theatre Company in 2001, to which she is founder, artistic/executive director, producer, and director of 34 plays she created in collaboration with youth and professional artists about issues facing youth. Recent plays: I Know Your Secret, The Identity Bureau and The Wait List Experiment. Some Assembly is the recipient of the City of Vancouver Youth Award for outstanding contribution to the youth community and the Deryck Thomson Award for exceptional contribution to community building and well-being. Valerie achieved a BFA from Concordia, and an MFA from UBC.
