Leah Holder

Leah Holder is a theatre artist and educator, originally from New Brunswick. She specialises in the creation of new text-based work, either through her work as a playwright, director, dramaturg, or educator. She is the playwright of Mary of Shanty Bay (TBTB 2018 and 2022), as well as a creator of Nine Mile Portage (TBTB). She is currently working on a TYA piece about her great-great-great grandmother who sailed the world at the age of twelve.
She has been the Company Dramaturg for Theatre by the Bay since 2020, and has proudly run the Barrie Theatre Lab since then. As an educator she frequently teaches with Young People’s Theatre (devised creation, theatre creation). Her playwriting and research interests surround Canadian history, particularly women’s history, Simcoe County, and New Brunswick.
She is a graduate of St. Thomas University and George Brown Theatre School, and now lives in Toronto.
