Mary-Colin hails from Antigonish altho’ claims dual citizenship as she was born in Inverness Cape Breton. She wrote many sketches and co-created a slew of devised work before writing her first full play in 1991: Safe Haven follows a young mom with HIV, back to her rural community. Some other works include: Shadows in the Cove, a speculative mystery inspired by an unsolved 1825 murder, Strange Humours, set at the time of the infamous British “Scalping Proclamations”, To Capture Light which retrieved the 19th century Jones sisters – Alice, a ‘roman a clé’ novelist and Franny, Canada’s first impressionist painter. She adapted her popular radio series He’d Be Your Mother’s Father’s Cousin into a stage play, and her work latest Half-Cracked: The Legend of Sissy Mary is a sui generis passionate flight of tragicomic imagination and lies, although it’s based on actual stuff. She is also an actor, director and former indie producer. She’s had the odd nom nod, but remains proudly un-Awarded, truly rewarded by the love of the audience and her co-creatives.
