Saawan Collective Playwright Retreat – DEADLINE: 2025/07/23

The Saawan Collective is accepting applications for their annual playwriting retreat!

The Saawan Playwrights Retreat will be a four day overnight intensive, August 1-4, 2025. This program will serve four emerging South Asian playwrights 18-30. Participants are asked to join the retreat with an idea for a play that they would like to explore throughout their time with them. Through creative writing exercises, sharing their work, and mentorship from industry professionals, the goal of this intensive is to give young artists time to develop their creative ideas. This project was created in response to the lack of South Asian spaces within the Canadian theatre community. Instead of focusing on how to teach artists how to write, this intensive will provide young creatives with space to share their ideas, receive feedback, and create community.

This program is entirely free. Transportation, accommodations, and food will be provided for those based in and around Toronto. Each participant will receive a $500 honorarium.
