Playwrights produce stories of legendary women in Canadian theatre

Fourteen female playwrights are set to present stories of some of the legendary women in Canadian theatre.
“Shadows in the Nooks: Spirited Women in Theatre” is an ambitious immersive production that tells the stories of women on whose shoulders Canadian theatre makers stand today – women who have passed away and whose legacy is fading from view. Women such as Dora Mavor Moore, Linda Griffiths, La Bolduc, Martha Mann, Susan Douglas Rubes, Jane Mallett, and Sharon Pollock are brought to life at decisive moments in their lives.
The team of playwrights (several who are PGC members) have created an evening of monologues about women who were committed to producing, staging and promoting productions that spoke to the joys, fears, and dreams of the public. These are some of the women on whose shoulders we stand today yet we often don’t know much or anything about them. This unique and innovative show brings their stories out of the shadows.
The production is a tribute to Alumnae Theatre, in celebration of more than a century of creative innovation by women.
On stage at Alumnae Theatre from February 11-14.
