FU-GEN Theatre Company proudly presents “MH370”
“MH370” is a 7 hour and 40 minute durational, immersive and interactive audio installation. It will loop end-to-end, around the clock, until June 11, 2021. The project is comprised of eight “sets”, marked by flight events that were recorded in existing evidence. Each set populates new audio content and occurs independent of the user. You can listen for as long as you like in one sitting or leave and come back as often as you choose to see what’s changed… there is no right or wrong way to experience “MH370”.
This project was inspired by real events. Malaysia Airlines flight 370 went missing on March 8, 2014 while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It had 227 passengers and 12 crew on board. The content in this project isn’t meant to approximate or represent the real passengers or crew on that flight. It does not feign to know what actually happened to the plane or the souls on board. What the project does propose is that a disappearing plane is – symbolically – a lot like the diasporic experience. There is a vanishing that takes place when we move between cultures, a subtraction, or a loss of mass. It’s the pursuit of this metaphor that is the central engine of “MH370”: an audio installation on travel, migration and what disappears between places.
