Marcia Kash PlayConnect Reading, Ontario Culture Days

Join Dundas-based playwright Marcia Kash in a reading of her recent work. Participants will be able to learn about Marcia, listen to the reading, and ask questions.

About Marcia Kash:
Marcia trained as an actor at the Drama Centre and began her career at the Royal Court Theatre in London, England. Her first play, the highly successful WHO’S UNDER WHERE? written with Douglas E. Hughes, has been translated into six languages and received over one hundred productions around the world. Together with Mr. Hughes, she penned the popular whodunnit A PARTY TO MURDER and the hilarious period comedy TOO MANY COOKS – currently breaking box office records in a Polish translation in Warsaw.
In 2015 their new comedy, JACK OF DIAMONDS, received its premiere to great critical and box office acclaim and, like its predecessors, it was quickly picked up for publication by Samuel French Inc. and has had more than 20 productions worldwide.

Marcia and Douglas are proud recipients of the Tom Hendry Award for Best New Comedy with their script SOMETHING FISHY. It received its premiere production at Lighthouse Festival in 2016.

Working solo, Marcia was commissioned to write DISCOVERING ELVIS for Lunchbox Theatre in Calgary. It has been widely produced throughout Canada and the U.S. Translated into French (A LA RECHERCHE D’ELVIS) it was nominated for a Les Masques theatre award for Best New Play and has enjoyed numerous productions throughout Quebec. Her drama FOR THIS MOMENT ALONE received its premiere in 2011 at Theatre Aquarius and was subsequently published by Dramatists Play Service. It has received a number of productions in the U.S and Canada.

Together with collaborator Mary Colin Chisholm, Marcia wrote the screenplay, A BELLY FULL, which received two development awards from Telefilm Canada. They have adapted it into a stage play and it received its world premiere at The Mill at Sonning in the UK in May 2019. Earlier this year it received its North American premiere at Theatre Aquarius.

In addition to writing and acting, Marcia is also an accomplished theatre director with over 100 credits ranging from new works to major musicals including the US/Canadian tour of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. Using her dramaturgical skills Marcia helped develop the new Canadian musical PROM QUEEN (now entitled THE LOUDER WE GET which she also directed in its premiere production at the Segal Centre in Montreal. Recently she directed THE LAST FIVE YEARS for Neptune Theatre in Halifax and will be directing OSLO for The Segal Centre.
