On Thursday, February 3rd, playwrights Maja Ardal and Liz Best will present readings. Ardal will read from her play in development The Legend of Pearl Hart which tells the story of Pearl Hart, born in Lindsay Ontario in 1871, who was the first woman tried and convicted of stagecoach robbery in the U.S. Pearl’s journey takes her from small town Ontario through Chicago’s World’s Fair, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West shows and the rough mining frontiers of Arizona. Her trial, imprisonment and wild escapades (often disguised as a boy) made her a notorious celebrity of the times.
Best will read from her play The Bay which tells the story of the third floor residents of a retirement home for seniors where life is pretty predictable and mundane. Things get upended, however, when high school students, Emilia and Daniel, visit each week to complete their community service hours and graduate from school. What begins as an obligation, turns into something quite different as generations collide and unlikely friendships are forged.
This virtual play reading event begins at 3:00 PM and runs for one hour including a Q & A session which is an opportunity for the playwrights to answer questions submitted by virtual attendees. This event, delivered virtually via Zoom, will also be live-streamed on 4th Line Theatre’s YouTube channel.
Sponsored by the Playwrights Guild of Canada and 4th Line season sponsor Nexicom, this livestream event is being offered free of charge and is limited to 100 live attendees, on a first-come, first-signed-up basis.
